Sometimes, taking a good portrait of your pet can be a little challenging. I know they are lovely creatures, but their curiosity and unpredictable and sudden movements can give you a little bit of tough time.
Here are some tips to catch that moment!
1. Make sure your camera lens is clean, sometime an unseen fingerprint can ruin a perfect photo.
2. Groom your pet before the photo-shutting. Of course, you want to make sure your pet looks amazing.
3. keep a pouch of treats handy to make him or her happy and enthusiastic.
4. have some of their favorite toys close by. This will create a fun moment.
5. Take a lot of pictures! At the begining, it will be a lot of curiosity, but as soon your pet gets used to the camera, it will become more natural for them.
6. Try to level your shooting point to their eyes level. This will make your photos looks professional. To do this, you can reach that level, or you can position your pet accordingly.
7. if you phone camera have a portrait mode, this is a good moment to use it. A blurry background will give an extra professional feature to your images.
8. Remember, the background will be part of your images too. Make sure to choose the right one.
9. Try different scenarios to photograph your pet. At home, at the park, during the day or at night.
10. One of my important rules in photography is: If the eyes of your pet (or people) are in perfect focus, that is a picture you can use.
As a bonus tip. It is great to see your pet in motion. If your camera has a slow-motion video mode, set your camera in this mode, get away a few yards from your pet, start filming it and call his/her name with a treat in your other hand. Slow-motion videos are so fun!
